Introduction
As a Data Processor and an Email Marketing Platform, Remarkety provides strong tools and features to help you with your GDPR and CCPA compliance efforts.
We understand that many companies have questions about GDPR and CCPA and the ways Remarkety helps companies to remain compliant with the new regulations. We have outlined the most frequently asked questions.
Question:
Can I delete a contact in Remarkety?
Answer:
Yes you can, there is a straightforward “Delete” button on the Contact’s Information page.
1. The email address will be anonymized so we will still see the email activity, in the campaign report you will see "Deleted" instead of the real email address.
2. Other personal details will be removed from the record.
3. The original email is added to the suppression list as "deleted". So even if the customer is added again (for example, from store sync), he/she will not receive any emails.
Question:
Can I access and export a contact’s stored data in Remarkety?
Answer:
Yes, you definitely can. Remarkety makes it easy for you to download the specific data the system has stored for a specific customer via a “Download” button in the Contact Information screen.
Question:
When a contact places an order but does not check the "Sign me up for newsletter" box, will he/she receive any emails?
Answer:
The customer’s marketing preference in Remarkety is dependent on the customer’s marketing preference in your store. When a customer refuses to opt in to your promotional material, the marketing preference for him/her in your store will be Opt-in status-No. It will subsequently be the same in Remarkety as well.
Question:
When a registered customer changes his marketing preference in my store from accepting marketing to not accepting marketing, will Remarkety pick up this update?
Answer:
Yes, we will. Remarkety syncs with your store every few minutes. If your customer’s data has been modified, Remarkety will receive the new data from your store and will update the contact’s marketing preference in your account, immediately.
Question:
How the GDPR and CCPA affect the cookie policies?
Answer:
If you use our website tracking feature, a cookie called _rm_sessionId was set up in your store. The cookie can be managed and deleted like any other cookie, from the browser. The cookie expires after 30 days, if not renewed. As a data controller, you are obligated to request consent from your browsers to enable cookies. Consent must be given through a clear affirmative action, such as clicking an opt-in box or choosing settings or preferences on a settings menu.
Question:
How does Remarkety help me with obtaining consent from my mailing list?
Answer:
If you are using Remarkety’s subscription forms and double opt-in (built-in feature), the consent records (customer approval) will be saved in our logs.
Question:
How does Remarkety help me with retaining consent from my mailing list?
Answer:
Remarkety added a template to our campaign editor titled GDPR Consent. The campaign offers a 2-button block that requests the shopper to re-subscribe or unsubscribe from the list. You can access it by clicking on "Change template" inside your campaign editor (in the design stage).
Question:
What customer data is stored on the Remarkety app?
Answer:
Remarkety stores the following data:
- Customer internal ID
- Email Address
- Registration /account creation date
- Personal information like first name, last name, DOB.
- Billing address information
-
Order history
-
Store browsing history
-
Emails sent to customers, including email performance
Question:
What is Remarkety's tracking cookie's duration, purpose and category?
Answer:
Remarkety has a cookie for the client side tracking. We store the client-side data for 30 days since the last interaction on the store and only if the customer is identified (For example, customer is logged in, customer signed up for the newsletter/popup or clicked an email sent by Remarkety etc.).
Remarkety has implemented the "Do Not Track" feature on our client-side tracking. It means that if a customer enabled the "Do not track" feature in the browser, we will not track his client side activity. However, we will still track email opens/clicks.
Remarkety has taken the time and effort to be compliant. Remarkety now offers new techniques and features that will help you, as an eCommerce email marketer, comply with GDPR and CCPA. You can read about it here: https://www.remarkety.com/gdpr-compliance-for-email-marketing
