Overview

Understanding what your contacts actually want is one of the most valuable things a marketing platform can help you capture. Remarkety's Multiple Choice field type makes that possible directly within your existing forms. Rather than relying on generic fields alone, you can ask a targeted question with a predefined set of answers, such as a contact's favorite product category, preferred scent, or shopping interest, and present it inside a pop-up, wherever it makes sense to ask.

When a contact selects an answer, it isn't just recorded and forgotten. It's saved directly to their profile as a custom field value, becoming a lasting part of how you understand that contact going forward. That data is immediately available wherever you build segments, letting you group contacts by how they responded without any manual tagging or extra configuration.

The result is richer contact data collected with minimal friction, while giving you the insight to send more relevant, personalized campaigns and turning routine data collection into a genuine understanding of each customer.

Key Benefits of Multiple Choice Fields

  • Build it once, use it anywhere.
Create a single reusable question with a defined list of answer options, then reuse it across as many forms as you need. No need to rebuild it each time.

  • Place it wherever it fits.
Add the question to any pop-up where custom fields can be placed, so you can ask it at the moment that makes the most sense for that touchpoint.

  • Support the response style you need.
Let contacts select one or more answers when they engage with the form, depending on how you've configured the field.

  • Keep every answer on record.
Each contact's selected answer(s) appear directly on their profile, giving you a persistent, at-a-glance view of how they responded.

  • Turn answers into action.
Filter and segment your contact list using the "one of" condition, so you can target campaigns around the specific answers contacts gave. No manual tagging required.

This article further outlines how you can create a multiple-choice custom field, add it to your pop-ups, and use the responses you collect to segment and target your contacts more effectively.

Create a Multiple Choice Custom Field

  1. Go to Contacts > Contact Fields.
  2. Click Add Field.
  3. Enter a Short description. This is the label you'll see when selecting the field elsewhere in the app (for example, in the segment editor).
  4. Enter a Field name using only lowercase letters, underscores, and numbers.

Note: The field name cannot be changed after the field is created.
  5. Set Field type to Multiple choice.

Note: The field type cannot be changed after the field is created.
  6. Under Options, enter each answer choice. Each option has a display Name and an underlying Value. Click + Add option to add as many choices as you need.
  7. Click Create.

The custom field is created and added to the list of contact fields.

Add the Custom Field to a Pop-Up

Once the custom field exists, you can add it to any Remarkety pop-up that supports custom fields:

  1. Go to Popups, then select an existing popup or create a new one to open it in the drag-and-drop editor.
  2. On the canvas, click the form block to select it. This opens the form's settings panel on the right.
  3. In that panel, scroll to the Manage Fields section and click + Add new field.
  4. Search for your Multiple Choice field by name and select it. The question and its answer options are added to the form. When responding, visitors will be able to select multiple values from the list.
  5. Click Save (and Publish, if applicable) to make the change live.

Once you publish the changes, the multiple-choice question is live on the form. Every response your visitors submit through that field will flow straight into their contact profile and be ready to use for segmentation right away.

Capture and Store Visitor Responses

Once you publish the pop-up, the question renders as a natural extension of your existing signup fields. The answer options you defined appear as checkboxes directly beneath the standard fields, such as Email and Phone, styled to match the rest of your form design. Visitors can review the options and select their answer(s) while entering their contact details, then submit the form in a single action.

When the form is submitted, the selected answers are saved to the visitor's Remarkety contact profile under Custom Fields, using the field name you set when creating the field. From there, the response is fully searchable and usable across the app, most importantly for segmentation, so every answer you capture becomes immediately actionable rather than sitting unused on a profile.

Segment Contacts Based on Their Multiple Choice Field Responses

Multiple-choice custom fields can be used as a filter condition anywhere you build a segment, for example, in the Contacts area, the Segments area, or while setting up a campaign.

To use a multiple-choice field as a filter condition:

  1. Go to Contacts > Contacts List (or the Segments area, or a campaign's segmentation step).
  2. Click + Add filter.
  3. Search for and select your multiple-choice field.
  4. Choose one of the operators, then select which answer option(s) to filter by.
  5. Click Update Filters to apply the segment.

Tip: Combine a Multiple Choice filter with other conditions (such as Tags or Total spending) to build highly targeted segments. For example, contacts who answered Men’s apparel AND have placed at least one order.

Once the filter is applied, your contact list updates instantly to show only the contacts matching the answer(s) you selected, ready to use for a targeted campaign, a saved segment, or further refinement with additional filters.
